Fat Pink Sheep on a Beach

 I’ve always loved fat, fluffy sheep.
However rarely are they actually fluffy but rather matted and full of stickers.

I have seen them sprawled and stuck in a muddy field because their extreme wooliness weighed them down, especially after a rain.
But no worries ~

They always managed to call a kindly farmer who would come give them a shove.

These sheep are at the beach, basking in pink sunset light.

This painting did not start out as pink sheep on a beach!
It was splashes of water and paint on white paper.
I’d had a vague dream of a beach and the color had remained in my mind.

Painting with watercolor is always, by it’s essence, a mystery.
It forces the artist to let go of attachments to a specific outcome.
A good thing.

Damn, and just when I was starting to get it!

    I used to think it was pink elephants.. But maybe what do I know..?? it is funny, I painted in the week. couple of paintings of sheeps.. love to see we are still on the same wave length. I’ll have to take a picture and send it to you.. Great to see you having fun… XizizizizizXXX

    Hahaha….leave it to me to love the Degas quote. It soooo fits.
    And you know my level of zeal with pink sheeps!! They reside on the sidebar of the weblog. This is just too adoreable. They deserve a weekend at the beach…come to think of it don’t we all! 🙂

      Mel, Oh, I could just hug you! I’ve missed you, lady. I hope things are OK in your world, well, as ‘well’ as can be expected. Yes, nothing like pink sheep. 🙂

      Guess what? I don’t like going to the beach!! Unless it’s Hawaii. The water here in the northern end is quite freezing. It’s usually foggy and windy and cold besides…. nope, not a beachy type but still dream about it and paint it from time to time. I do like Mendocino but that coastline is so craggy, you’re not going down to the water’s edge unless you own it! haha, not quite near to that place yet!

    They are very sweet and lovely sheep – especially when compared with dirty wet ones. I remember in Northern England seeing sheep that had coloured splotches on their rear ends so the farmers could sort out which ones belonged to who when shearing time came.

      How are you doing? I’m falling a bit behind of late and no idea why excepting the craziness in general. I think you might have gotten an email rant. 🙂

      People still mark sheep in an amazing variety of ways but if they want the wool to sell, they do it less often. Seems lots of sheep ranchers are now going into the wool market to make a better living, can’t blame them. For the first time in over 3 decades the cattle ranchers are going to make some profit BUT due to the drought in the western US, most have had to cull back their herds so don’t have anything much left to sell. Ironic isn’t it? sighs….

    I personally prefer goats to sheep, but then that’s just my own quirkiness.

      I was changing the font colors and noticed your comment here. Somehow I missed it?! I get upset with myself when I do that so wanted to apologize to you. Thank you for always coming by and sharing with me, your thoughts. They mean so much to me and I’m especially happy to know you enjoy pink. So do I but you might have guessed that! I don’t hide it and use it almost everyday in one way or the other. I think it creates a soul joy.
